4/20/08 - A Real Cincy Jam Session |
![]()
April 20th, 2008 Venue: Ballet Tech Cincinnati To that end, there is a movement afoot whose goal it is to lift Jazz – the art form – out of the clubs and bars and to celebrate it in a family friendly environment. The Jam session is particularly helpful to young people by giving them an opportunity to experience (from the stage, from in the audience, or both) a real, live gig which they may not otherwise have been able to do because of age restrictions or varied skill levels. The Jam Session is an expression of jazz as the great equalizer, for all and by all. The Real Jam Session has been a labor of devotion for those whose vision it is to see pure jazz – the art, the communication medium – extracted from the club lifestyle which so often surrounds it. A lifestyle to which it has become (and arguably has always has been) intimately tied, yet is distinct from, as a form of art. The prime movers behind the Real Jam Session are members of the Breathairean Ensemble, a local jazz group known for there commitment to higher levels of health, well-being and communication – especially on stage. The Ensemble provides structure to the event both musically and logistically, but the event is truly by the people, for the people – so, be sure to check your ego at the door! The event is open to anyone, of any age or skill level who wishes to gain experience as a musician or just enjoy being and playing in the environment. Goodwill is the hallmark of this event. If you enjoy listening and learning, then you will feel quite at home here. -ac
